NILESHWAR (KASARAGOD): Nileswaram police registered a case on the complaint of the family of MK Radhamani, the granddaughter of Kayyur Revolt activist Elachi Kannan, who alleged that CPM local leaders had stopped them from harvesting coconuts in their own field and had tried to assault them, in the party village of Palayi.
On a complaint by Radhamani's granddaughter Ananya, the case was filed against four local leaders, including Udayakumar and K Padmanabhan, and against Udayakumar and Kunjambu on the complaint of Padanakkad native Shaji, who had come to pick coconuts. A case has also been registered against Shaji, who had come to pluck coconuts, on the complaint of a local woman named Lasitha.
The complaint of Radhamani and her family is that CPM has imposed a social boycott. There was a controversy when local leaders and workers of CPM stopped the labourers who came to pluck coconuts in Radhamani's field the other day. After the workers were stopped, there was a verbal dispute between the two groups. There was also a complaint that some of the CPM local leaders had committed verbal assault against the housewife and her children.
However, the locals claim that they have only questioned the fact that false cases have been filed, including against old women, against the construction of the Palazhi Shutter Cum Bridge, which is the dream of the Palayi region.
CPM denies allegation
CPM Perol East Local Committee said that the social boycott campaign is wrong. Coconut plucking workers in Palayi and the area had only interrogated the labourers who came from outside. Some centres are propagating this against the party.
