Suspension of Veterinary Varsity VC: Court asks for governor's explanation

court

KOCHI: The High Court has asked the governor, who is also the chancellor, to give an affidavit before April 1 in the plea against the suspension of Kerala Veterinary University Vice-Chancellor Dr MR Saseendranath. Justice AA Ziyad Rehman's directive came on a plea filed by Saseendranath claiming that the Chancellor has no power to order the suspension and thereby seeking to quash the action. The government and the petitioners told the court that the new vice-chancellor PC Saseendran also had to resign yesterday despite the chancellor's counsel asking for time. Therefore, an immediate hearing was requested. The court verbally asked whether the examination will be affected if there is no person in the post of vice-chancellor. The petition will be heard on April 3.

Dr Saseendranath was suspended by the governor for allegedly failing to take action in the case of JS Siddharth, a student of Pookode Veterinary College, who was found hanging.
