President's rule in Delhi? BJP with hasty moves as Kejriwal prepares to make key revelations on Thursday

NEW DELHI: Indicating a possibility of President's rule, Lt. Governor VK Saxena said on Wednesday that Kejriwal cannot rule Delhi while in jail.

AAP had earlier stated that Arvind Kejriwal will not resign as Chief Minister and will rule while in jail. Kejriwal had issued two orders while in jail. These were orders to address water scarcity and ensure free supply of medicine in mohalla clinics. The BJP raised a huge protest against the action and complained to the governor claiming that the orders were not legal. With the governor's stance, the matter is moving towards an open war. At the same time, the Aam Aadmi Party accused the BJP of trying to prevent Kejriwal from serving the people of Delhi.

Last Thursday, Kejriwal was arrested by the ED in the liquor policy scam case. The Delhi High Court did not interfere with Kejriwal's plea that the ED's custody was illegal and that he should be released immediately. Kejriwal's custody is till 2 pm today. So he will be brought to Rose Avenue Court today, where ED might seek an extension of custody.

Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma allowed the ED's request for time to reply and decided to hear the detailed arguments on April 3. The court did not accept Kejriwal's counsel's argument that there was no need for a reply. Additional Solicitor General SV Raju informed the court that the copy of the petition was received on Tuesday afternoon.

The ED has been asked by the court to respond by April 2 to the petition filed by Kejriwal questioning the arrest. Copy of which should be given to Kejriwal's lawyer. The court notice was received by ED's counsel.

At the same time, Arvind Kejriwal's wife Sunita will present evidence in the court today as to who actually holds the bribe money in the liquor case. The wife was told that it will be revealed when she is produced in the Delhi Rose Avenue court at 2 pm today. The court had allowed Sunita to visit Kejriwal every day from 6 to 7 pm.

"Arvindji told me that in the past two years they (referring to probe agencies like the ED) conducted 250 raids in this so-called liquor policy case. He told me that they are searching for the money from this so-called scam... but so far they have not recovered a single paise of illegal money," Sunita said.
