60-year-old woman and granddaughter drown while taking bath in river in Muvattupuzha; one child in serious condition

MUVATTUPUZHA: In a tragic incident, a 60-year-old woman and her granddaughter drowned while taking a bath in a river. The deceased have been identified as Kizhakkekudiyil Amina and her granddaughter Farha Fathima (12). Farha's sister Fana Fathima, who was with them, is undergoing treatment at the hospital. It is reported that her condition is serious. The incident took place at Nediyamala Kadavu in Randarkara at around 11 am today. Amina and her grandchildren used to regularly come hear to take baths in the river. It is not clear how the accident happened.

It was some of the nearby women who first saw Amina and her granddaughter drowning in the river. They immediately informed the matter to the men who were engaged in painting work nearby. The painting workers immediately rushed to the spot and took Amina and Fana out of the river. However, they did not know that one more child had drowned in the river. Only after contacting the family of Amina did they learn that one more child was involved in the accident. Following this, the locals contacted the Fire Force. The second child was later found in the river during the search carried out by the Fire Force.

Fana is undergoing treatment at the Kolenchery Medical College Hospital. It is reported that she has been on ventilator support.
