Rajeev Chandrasekhar initiates legal action against Shashi Tharoor for 'cash for votes' claim

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Rajeev Chandrasekhar, NDA candidate here, has reacted sharply to Shashi Tharoor's MP allegation that the NDA candidate is seeking votes by paying money. Chandrasekhar stated in a press release that Tharoor, who was elected as an MP three times, is now practicing third-rate politics of no quality and legal action has been taken.

“Negative politics is not my style; I stand for positive attitudes and the development of the country. Please don't drag me into cheap politics," said Rajeev Chandrasekhar.

Rajeev Chandrasekhar said that Shashi Tharoor's allegations are false and strong legal action has been initiated against the defamatory statement.

"What is behind his current blatant lies is a futile attempt to divert public attention from Shashi Tharoor's past 15 years of performance as an MP. The claim that I'm trying to influence community votes by giving money is a lie as those told earlier on the CAA and Manipur issues", he said.

"Shashi Tharoor must and will have to answer many serious questions in the context of the allegations against me.

1) Who did I pay?

Shashi Tharoor should also clarify who took the money as he alleged that I gave the money.

2) As a sitting MP, if he has had such experience earlier, he should specify from whom.

Tharoor's false statement is insulting to community organizations in India. Shashi Tharoor should also think that when such baseless allegations are made, there will be serious legal consequences. Mine is not Tharoor's political culture but I follow the noble stance of Narendra Modi ji who is relentlessly fighting against corruption.

In any case, I am moving forward not depending on such childish allegations but focusing on comprehensive development activities like housing, drinking water and skill development for the people of Thiruvananthapuram. I will continue that," Rajeev Chandrasekhar added.
