No explanation sought, account frozen without giving prior notice: CPM issues statement against IT Dept

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM state secretariat in a statement on Saturday said that the action of freezing the account of the Thrissur district committee is highly objectionable. "Income and expenditure figures of CPM are duly submitted to the Income Tax Department and the Election Commission every year. All the accounts of the Thrissur District Committee have been submitted in this way. The current action is part of the BJP government's decision to use central agencies during the election phase to settle political grudges," CPM alleged.

"The party has taken a firm stand against wrongdoing in the issues raised in connection with cooperative banks in Thrissur. District Secretary MM Varghese appeared before the enforcement on the basis of the notice issued by the ED. The Income Tax officials also reached there at that time. The Income Tax authorities have frozen the account without giving any prior notice or asking for an explanation. The Income Tax Department has taken an extremely wrong step in this regard," CPM said.

The CPM also called for the public to join the struggle to correct such policies by being more active in election activities.
