OLLUR: UDF workers came in droves, braving the scorching heat to take part in the rally that saw the presence of Karnataka congress supremo D K Shivakumar. The Congress leader waited for some time before getting out of his car. The supporters who were till then taking shade in nearby shops and trees, left behind the ‘luxury’ to circle D K Shivakumar by singing paeans. It was midway through K Muralidharan’s speech that D K Shivakumar made his heroic entry in Thrissur.
Muralidharan made a wise decision to pause his speech since the chants and uproar over DK’s entry were massive enough to take off the sheen from his speech. DCC President Jose Vallur welcomed DK while Muralidharan and former MP T N Prathapan joined the bandwagon of other congress leaders.
After taking over the mic, D K Shivakumar first blared praise to ‘Bharat Mata’ which saw the crowd responding in the same fervour. D K Shivakumar later chanted in support of Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, K Karunakaran, AK Antony and K. Muralidharan, which left the crowd in high spirits.
“I am not here to campaign for a candidate, but for the tiger (K Muralidharan) who even made PM Modi shiver in fear. When I was arrested by central agencies, it was the congress supporters from Kerala, who first hit the streets in protest even before the party workers in Karnataka” said D K Shivakumar.
D K Shivakumar termed the people of Kerala as ‘enlightened ones’ and even asked CM Pinarayi Vijayan to remove the JDS ministers from his cabinet (JDS is an ally of BJP in Karnataka).
A wooden baby elephant statue was gifted to D K Shivakumar when he was about to step down from the stage.
