THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: It is almost certain that every household in Kerala that run fans, ACs and coolers without break will be shocked at their electricity bill in this summer. It is a fact that there is no relief from the summer heat without operating these devices non-stop. As a result, the data shows that electricity consumption in the state is at a record high.

Electricity consumption has reached an all-time record. For the first time in history, the total usage has crossed 11 crore units. On Monday, 11.01 crore units of electricity were consumed in the state. The previous record of 10.82 crore units was consumed on April 6. Peak time power demand also crossed an all-time record. The peak time demand was 5,487 MW.

The electricity board is worried that if things continue in the current situation, the state will face a power crisis. Due to the election period, there is a situation where restrictions including load shedding cannot be imposed. At the same time, KSEB has also put forward a request to the public to cooperate in reducing electricity consumption.

KSEB has requested the public to minimize usage during the peak hours between 6 pm and 11 pm. The board has requested people to operate AC only in essential rooms during these times and to cooperate with the instructions. It is also warned that if the summer rains do not arrive in the coming days, the state will face another period of power crisis.
