Temperature to rise further in coming days, yellow alert declared in 12 districts

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that the temperature will rise in the state in the coming days. A yellow alert has been declared in all 12 districts except Idukki and Wayanad. Palakkad district recorded heat up to 45 degrees.

The state is scorching with intense heat both day and night. The expected summer rains did not come this time. Temperatures were recorded above 35 degrees Celsius in all 14 districts. Palakkad district is likely to get hotter in the coming days.

The IMD has warned that the temperature may rise to 45 degrees in Palakkad and some places have already recorded up to 45 degrees Celsius. The temperature is likely to rise to 40 degrees Celsius in Kollam district, 38 degrees in Thrissur, Kannur, Kozhikode, Pathanamthitta and Kottayam districts, 37 degrees in Kasaragod, Ernakulam and Alappuzha districts and 36 degrees in Thiruvananthapuram and Malappuram districts.

With the heat rising, the electricity consumption in the state is also registering record numbers every day. On Tuesday, 11.17 crore units were used in the state.
