WASHINGTON: An Indian student, who had gone missing a month ago in the USA, was found dead. The Indian Embassy in New York confirmed that the body of Muhammad Abdul Arfath (25), a native of Hyderabad, was found in Cleveland, Ohio, USA. According to the Embassy, Arfath was found dead on Tuesday morning.
Arfath was a graduate student at Cleveland State University. Arfath came to the US in 2023. It is learnt that he was kidnapped and killed by a drug gang.
Arfath last contacted his family on March 7. Arfath's father Muhammad Saleem said that he had spoken to his son on March 7 and that Arfath's his phone was switched off after that.
"On March 19, I received a call from an unknown number. The caller informed me that my son had been kidnapped and demanded money. He did not mention the mode of payment. When I asked the caller to let us talk to my son, he refused," Saleem said.
The police have launched a detailed investigation into the incident. Arfath is the 11th Indian to be killed in the USA this year.
