Varsha (28), Vismaya (26) and Vrinda (24), the children of Prashant Bose and Sarala of Kalamassery Arimbrathodi, are preparing to bring small grain powders and products to the market. Eight millets will immediately reach the processing unit at Kalamassery for value addition.
The objective is to process and package Foxtail millet, Little millet, Pearl millet, Barnyard millet, Ragi, Kodo millet, Sorghum and Brown Top Millet. The new idea emerged when 2023 was declared as the Year of Millet. An agreement will soon be reached with agencies in Theni and North Indian agricultural villages to purchase small grains. Asafoetida company was started in 2019 from the idea of Varsha who studied Business Administration. Vismaya and Vrinda also joined.
Asafoetida brought from Delhi and Mumbai markets is made edible at the Kalamassery unit. The company was started with a bank loan of Rs.2 lakh.
There was a year where the turnover was two and a half crore rupees. The sisters say that no matter how much diversification happens, Asafoetida will not be abandoned. Meanwhile, they have released rice powder, grain powders, chilli powder, turmeric powder and curry masalas.
