KOTTAYAM: In a shocking incident, a passenger was bitten by a snake inside a running train in Kottayam. The incident took place yesterday morning in bogie number 7 of the Guruvayur-Madurai passenger train. Tenkasi Sankarankoil native Karthik Subramanian (21) was bitten by the snake at around 10 am on Monday when the train was travelling between Ettumanoor and Piravom Road. He is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Soon after Karthik expressed doubt that he was bitten by a snake, he was dropped at the Ettumanoor station and rushed to Kottayam Medical College Hospital in an ambulance. His health condition is satisfactory. The Medical College informed the youth was indeed bitten by a snake. Karthik's fellow passengers said they found a hole in the train bogie.
Following the incident, authorities took swift action upon the train's arrival at Kottayam railway station. Passengers from the affected bogie were relocated to another area and the bogie was securely sealed. Despite thorough inspection, no snake was found.
This was a train that was stopped at Guruvayur yard for a long time. Passengers had earlier complained of a rat infestation in the train. It is suspected that the youth was bitten by a snake that got inside the train to catch rats.
