IDUKKI: The police stopped the family's move to cremate the body of a five-year-old girl, who succumbed to her burn injuries. Shweta, daughter of Ramesh of Nallathanni and Divya, died the other day. An investigation has started after the Munnar police registered a case of unnatural death.

The child sustained burn injuries a month ago at her relative’s house in Vaguvarai. Shweta, who sustained burns after falling into the hot water kept for bathing, was admitted at Kottayam Medical College Hospital. She was brought home after discharged on March 29. The doctors had advised further treatment for her. In the meantime, she was taken to the hospital after she developed difficulties in breathing, but her life could not be saved.

A police team led by SHO Rajan K Aramana stopped the rituals that started for her cremation at 2 pm yesterday after registering a case. The body has been shifted to Idukki Medical College Hospital for postmortem.
