NEW DELHI: The first phase of voting for the Lok Sabha elections 2024 has begun. Polling began at 7 am in the 102 Lok Sabha constituencies in 21 states including Tamil Nadu. Voting for the 60-member Arunachal Pradesh Assembly and the 32-member Sikkim Assembly will also be held today.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked all voters to register their right to vote as the first phase of elections begins. He also requested the youths and first time voters to vote in large numbers.
Prominent people including RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, actor Ajith, Congress leader P Chidambaram and AIADMK leader Edappadi Palaniswami registered their votes.

States where elections will be held today, seats
Tamil Nadu-39, Rajasthan-12, Uttar Pradesh-8, Madhya Pradesh-6, Uttarakhand, Assam, Maharashtra- 5 each, Bihar-4, West Bengal-3, Arunachal, Manipur, Meghalaya-2 each, Chhattisgarh, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura, Jammu and Kashmir, Lakshadweep, Puducherry and Andaman and Nicobar- one seat each.
There are 16.63 crore voters and 1625 candidates.
