First phase of Lok Sabha elections concludes, 59.71% nationwide polling

NEW DELHI: Polling for the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections has ended. Polling is 59.71 percent across the country. Bengal and Tripura recorded the best polling in the first phase. Less polling is in Bihar. In Bengal, the polling in three constituencies is 77.57 percent. A constituency in Tripura recorded 76.10 percent polling.

In Tamil Nadu, where elections were held in all 39 seats, more than 62 percent polling was recorded, while in Bihar, 46.32 percent polling was recorded. In Rajasthan, where elections were held in 12 seats, only 50% polling took place. In Bihar, 46 percent voter turnout was recorded for four constituencies. In Uttarakhand, 53 percent, Uttar Pradesh 57.54 percent and Manipur 67.46 percent voter turnout.

Elections were held today for 102 constituencies in 21 states and union territories.Tamil Nadu (39), Uttarakhand (5), Bihar (4), Madhya Pradesh (6), Maharashtra (5), Rajasthan (12), Tripura (1), Uttar Pradesh (8), West Bengal (3), Jammu and Kashmir (1), Arunachal Pradesh (2), Manipur (2), Meghalaya (2), Mizoram (1), Nagaland (1), Sikkim (1), Lakshadweep, Puducherry, Andaman 102 constituencies, including the Union Territory of Nicobar, will be judged in the first phase. 1625 candidates are contesting in 102 constituencies. Polling was held today in all 92 assembly constituencies in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim.
