NEDUMBASSERY: Premakumari, the mother of Malayali woman Nimisha Priya who remains in jail in Yemen after being awarded a death sentence, has left for Yemen to see her daughter. Premakumari went to Mumbai from Nedumbassery on an Indigo flight at 5 am yesterday. From there, she will go to Aden Airport in Yemen and then to the capital Sana'a by road.

Nimisha Priya's husband Tommy Thomas, daughter Michelle, Adv. KR Subhash Chandran had come to the airport to see off Premakumari. Premakumari is going to Yemen along with Tamil Nadu native Samuel Jerome, a member of the Save Nimisha Priya International Action Council and a businessman from Yemen.

The trial court had awarded a death sentence to Nimisha Priya in the case of the killing of Yemeni citizen Talal Abdo Mahdi in 2017. The only way to save Nimisha Priya is by offering blood money to Talal's family. Businessman MA Yusuff Ali, Justice Kuryan Joseph and others are making efforts for Nimisha Priya's release. Speaking to the media at the airport, Premakumari said that she is hopeful that these efforts will pay off.
