MALAPPURAM: One died of sunstroke in the state. The dead is Muhammad Haneefa of Padinjattumuri in Malappuram. Haneefa, who collapsed yesterday afternoon, was rushed to the hospital but his life could not be saved. Three people had died in the state yesterday. They are suspected to have died of sunstroke.
Shameer (35) of Thalapara in Vaikom Thalayolaparambu, died while playing cricket. A cricket tournament was organized in Vaikom Beach yesterday morning. Shameer came to play cricket in the afternoon and in between this, he collapsed and died.
Two including a woman collapsed and died in Palakkad. R Sabarish (27), son of P Ramani of Sabari Niwas and Ambujam. Sabarish, who developed uneasiness while standing with his friends, was admitted to the Taluk Hospital, but his life could not be saved. Doctors said the cause of death would be clear only after the post-mortem.
A 56-year-old woman from Palakkad collapsed and died while waiting for the bus. The dead is Sarojini, a native of Thenkara. People standing nearby immediately took her to the nearby clinic and then to a private hospital in Mannarkkad, but her life could not be saved. Her death has not been confirmed as sunstroke.
Meantime, there is no relief from the scorching heat. The Central Meteorological Department has warned that there will be rain in various districts to bring relief from the extreme heat. Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Kozhikode and Wayanad are predicted to receive summer rains. Lakshadweep is also expected to receive rain today.
