After Wayanad, Congress fields Rahul Gandhi from Rae Bareli; K L Sharma in Amethi

LUCKNOW: Putting all rumours and ambiguities to rest, congress has fielded Rahul Gandhi from the family bastion Rae Bareli. Uttar Pradesh Minister Dinesh Pratap Singh is the BJP candidate in the constituency. Meanwhile, KL Sharma is the Congress candidate in Amethi and will fight against sitting MP and union minister Smriti Zubin Irani. Polling will be held on the 20th of this month in both constituencies. Rahul was the candidate from Wayanad in Kerala where the elections concluded on April 26.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday held discussions with Rahul Gandhi in Karnataka’s Shivamogga. It was after this meeting that the final decision was made. The deadline for submission of nomination papers is on Friday evening.

Rae Bareli and Amethi are two constituencies held dear by the Gandhi family. It was only after the BJP announced the candidate in Rae Bareli that Congress decided to field Gandhi scion Rahul. In 2019, Rahul Gandhi was trounced shockingly by Smriti Irani from the family bastion of Amethi.

There were reports about Priyanka Gandhi contesting from Rae Bareli while her husband was rumoured to be the candidate from Amethi.
