Youth Congress activists beaten up during Nava Kerala Yathra; Chief Minister's two gunmen interrogated in secret

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A recent report claimed that the Crime Branch secretly interrogated two gunmen of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in the incident where Youth Congress activists were beaten up in Alappuzha during the Nava Kerala Yathra. It was the Alappuzha Crime Branch DySP who interrogated gunmen Anil Kumar and Sandeep just ahead of the Lok Sabha election. However, the information came out just now.

Earlier, the Crime Branch had asked Anil Kumar and Sandeep twice to appear for questioning. However, the two did not appear citing their busy official schedule. Following this, the Crime Branch DySP questioned the two when he reached Thiruvananthapuram for official purposes. During the interrogation, the two gunmen said that it was their duty to protect the life of the Chief Minister and that they only performed their duty. They also said that they did not do anything else to harm anyone.

The incident took place on December 15 after the Youth Congress-KSU activists waved black flags against the Chief Minister's vehicle in Alappuzha town. After the Youth Congress workers waved black flags, the gunmen in the CM's convoy came out and thrashed the activists with long sticks. Youth Congress State Secretary Adv Ajay Juel Kuriakose that they were beaten up by the gunmen after the Chief Minister's vehicle passed by.
