After almost 50 years, railways restores special train to Chennai on Kollam-Chenkotta route

KOLLAM: Southern Railway has announced AC special train to Chennai on Kollam - Chenkotta route that starts from Kochuveli. This is the first time that the train service from Thiruvananthapuram will be started on this route after the Chenkotta route became broad gauge. When it was meter gauge, there was Thiruvananthapuram-Chennai service via Chenkotta. This service is getting restored after almost 50 years.

The service from Tambaram will start from May 16th and from Kochuveli from May 17. There will be 14 trips on both routes. Although the special train has been announced till June, there is a possibility of extending the service depending on the rush of passengers. The train will have 14 AC economy coaches. Reservation has started. Kochuveli-Chennai ticket price is Rs 1335.

Tambaram Kochuveli AC Special (06035) train departs at 9.40 pm on Thursday and Saturday and reaches Kochuveli at 1.40 pm the next day, return train (06036) Friday. The return train (06036) will leave Kochuveli at 3.35 pm on Fridays and Sundays. The next morning the train will reach Tambaram at 7.35 am.

Stops: Chengalpet, Melmaruvathur, Vizhupuram, Virudachalam, Tiruchirappalli, Dindigul, Madurai, Virudanagar, Sivakasi, Srivilliputhur, Rajapalayam, Shankarankovil, Pampakovil Shandi, Kadayanallur, Thenkashi, Thenmala, Punalur, Avaneeswaram, Kottarakkara, Kundara, Kollam. The service will also benefit those going to Pondicherry.
