THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala State Electricity Boad (KSEB) is all set to try a new method to control the usage of electricity. The method of sending messages to customers’ mobile phones the units of electricity consumed, including at home, is being experimented. This will be with the help of artificial intelligence (AI). The message will reach the mobiles registered in the KSEB. So, the project can be implemented very easily. Already, customers are informed about bills and power outages through SMS.

The message will also contain details about the load of electricity used in the past, the present load and how to reduce it. This is expected to reduce electricity usage and thereby reduce the rising bills. KSEB was ready to try the new method when the electricity consumption reached an unprecedented level in the history of April and the first week of May, when Kerala was experiencing extreme heat. The peak load was recorded at 5797 MW in the first week of May. With the arrival of summer rains, the heat has cooled down a bit, so there is now a significant reduction in the electricity consumption. KSEB and the government tried hard to avoid load shedding.

The Brihan Mumbai Electric Supply and Transport Undertaking (BEST). It is being implemented this in Mumbai. The officials of the electricity department are studying its operation. Discussed with some AI agencies in Kerala. Reports said that it is not clear when the project will be implemented. The authorities believe that the implementation of the SMS system will bring significant benefits.
