VALANCHERRY: A patient with chest pain died after the vehicle carrying him to the hospital got stuck in the mud on the road. The deceased Vadakkepeedyekal Syedali (61), a native of Namboothiripady in Karekkad, experienced chest pain at around 3.30 am on Monday. His wife and two children accompanied him in a car to the hospital 5.5 kilometres away in Nadakkavu, but the vehicle got stuck in mud in Moonnamkuzhi in Karekkad Road at around 4 am.
About 100 metres of the road in Monnamkuzhi was filled with soil and mud from the Velliyammala hill, where sand is taken for the construction of the national highway. When the car reached here, it got stuck and could not move forward. Seeing an auto rickshaw on the other side, the children picked up Syedali and took him into autorickshaw with great difficulty. He was brought to the hospital around 4.25, but he died. Syedali has been taking medicine for chest pain for a long time. The road was made usable by 12 noon following the protests of the locals.
Locals say that accidents are common due to unplanned soil extraction. Locals alleged that despite informing the police in the morning about the vehicles being stuck on the road, the authorities were late in arriving.
Syedali's wife: Amina. Children: Riyas, Russell, Dr. Rasmila. The body was laid to rest at Vadakkumpuram Juma'at mosque kabaristan in Vadakkumpuram.
