Relief from extreme heat, monsoon to arrive in Kerala on this day

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Most of the states in India are reeling under extreme heat. Most of the districts in Kerala are experiencing drastic weather due to the anticyclone and El Nino phenomenon. Some places received rain, but there wasn't a significant drop in temperature everywhere. The people are eagerly waiting for the arrival of the monsoon.

This year's southwest monsoon is likely to reach Kerala on May 31, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has informed. According to a note released by the IMD, monsoon may start four days before or four days after this date.

For the last three years, the nation has been experiencing extreme heat waves from the beginning of summer. Some places experienced heat waves lasting 10 to 20 days. Many parts of eastern India have recorded their hottest temperatures on record.

Meanwhile, central and southern districts of Kerala will receive heavy rains till Monday following the formation of a cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal. There will be light rain in northern districts. Rainfall will be less in the coastal region. Thunderstorms and strong winds are likely.

Fishing should be avoided in the south Kerala coast on Thursday and Friday. Yellow alert has been announced in Pathanamthitta, Idukki and Ernakulam districts today, Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Palakkad and Malappuram districts tomorrow and Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki and Ernakulam districts tomorrow.
