KOTTAYAM: A Malayali family was found dead inside a car in Cumbum in Tamil Nadu. The deceased have been identified as George P Scaria (60), wife Mercy (58) and son Akhil (29), living on rent in Vakathanam, and natives of Kanjirathumoodu in Kottayam's Thupally.
They were missing for some days and the Vakathanam police had also registered a missing case. The police suspected that they might have left the place due to financial obligations. It was first reported that the bodies of two men and a woman were found inside a Hyundai Grand i10 parked in a garden off Cumbum-Kambamettu road.
The deceased were identified after a search centered on the vehicle with Kottayam registration (KL 05 AU 9199). The forensic team of Tamilnadu police searched the car and found a bottle of pesticide from inside. With this, the police team suspects that the three people committed suicide.
Neighbors say that the family had a financial liability of more than Rs 2.5 crores and have taken many loans. They attempted to pay the debts by selling their house and land but it didn't work. Akhil owned a small garments shop. This was the only source of income for the family. George was a farmer. Local residents said that there was no information about the family for more than four days.
