KANHANGAD: Police received a tip-off about the culprit who kidnapped and sexually assaulted a 10-year-old girl from Padannakkad. After the assault, the man took the girl's earrings and left her stranded on the road. It is reported that the accused is a lanky figure who speaks Malayalam. A five-member team comprising three DYSPs has been appointed to investigate.

District Police Chief P. Bijoy is camping in Kanhangad to supervise the investigation. Hosadurga DYSP VV Latish, Kannur Crime Branch DYSP P. Balakrishnan Nair, Kannur Narcotics Cell DYSP CK Sunilkumar, Hosadurga Police Inspector MP Azad and Nileswaram Inspector KV Umesh are included in the investigation team.

The victim on Thursday told police about the features of the culprit. According to her, the man speaks good Malayalam and was wearing a lungi, shirt and a mask to cover his face. The CCTV footage of the area did not provide any clues. Fingerprints of the accused have been collected from each fifty and ten notes recovered from the spot.

The police have concluded that the culprit is a known figure in the area as the man had a clear idea about the time when the grandfather of the victim left her alone in the house, to go and milk the cow.
