Infectious fever surge after rains: 6,151 seek treatment, dengue cases rise and jaundice spreads

diseases

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: An infectious fever is spreading after the rains. On the last day, 6,151 people sought treatment in government hospitals with 108 exhibiting dengue symptoms. Dengue has been confirmed in 35 people, including 12 cases in Kollam district and 8 in Ernakulam. In the past two weeks, dengue has been confirmed in 415 people and 1,431 people are currently under treatment for symptoms.

Jaundice has spread to 12 locations. However, the situation in Malappuram and Ernakulam is under control. In Ernakulam, some hostels using sewage water were also affected by yellow fever prompting authorities to prescribe superchlorination of drinking water sources in affected areas.

The health department has warned that dengue fever may spread severely in June and July. These epidemics mirror those of previous years. Due to the failure of pre-monsoon cleaning, many places became waterlogged during the summer rains creating ideal conditions for mosquito breeding. If mosquito breeding is not controlled, the situation will worsen. Health Minister Veena George has advised preparations to deal with diseases such as dengue fever, West Nile fever, yellow fever and leptospirosis (rat fever).

The condition is critical. The condition of the child with amoebic encephalitis remains critical and medicine delivery has been an issue. The virology lab in Pune did not confirm the disease in the case of a 13-year-old girl who died from West Nile. The Health Minister reports that 10 West Nile cases have been confirmed.
