MALAPPURAM: A gold smuggling gang kidnapped a young man, brutally beat him up and left him on the road. Sahad (30), a native of Kottakkal was abducted from his home. The accused then called the young man's house and demanded a ransom of Rs. one crore. The incident took place on Friday night at around nine o'clock. The group arrived at Sahad's house in two cars.
When they were sure that they would not get the money, the accused brutally beat Sahad and left him on the road in Randathani. Locals then took the injured youth to a private hospital. Sahad suffered serious injuries to his face and head.
The police say that behind the abduction of the young man are people connected with gold smuggling in Karipur. The police told the media that the abduction was because Sahad had betrayed information about gold smuggling to someone else. The Kottakkal CI said that three members of the gang have been identified. The police also stated that there is no information suggesting that Sahad has any connection with gold smuggling gangs or any criminal record.
Last month in Thiruvalla, a young man who was a passenger in a car was also abducted by a gang of gangsters and left on the roadside after being beaten up. Sarath (23) from Tathyalikkal, Mannuthi, Thrissur was assaulted. Locals took Sarath to the Thiruvalla Taluk Hospital.
Sarath, who was traveling from Payippad to Thiruvalla, was stopped by a car, and then a group of four abducted him in the same car. They left him on the road after brutally beating him. Sarath gave a statement to the police that he was abducted by the gang leader Koyilandi Rahul and his gang.
