KOZHIKODE: Usha Kumari, the mother of the accused Rahul P. Gopalan in the Panthirankaav domestic violence case and his sister have sought anticipatory bail. Both applied for bail in the Kozhikode District Court.
Earlier, there were reports that Rahul's mother and sister would be charged with dowry harassment. Following this, they approached the court seeking anticipatory bail. It is reported that Usha Kumari is undergoing treatment at Kozhikode Medical College. The investigation team had previously issued a notice to Usha and her daughter to appear for questioning but they did not comply.
Meanwhile, Rahul is still absconding. A Blue Corner notice has been issued with the help of Interpol to trace him. The complainant's family alleged that Rahul had entered Germany. Additionally, his friend Rajesh testified that Rahul has reached Germany. The Special Branch reported that he had left for a foreign country via Bengaluru.
The investigation team found that a police officer from Panthirankaav station advised Rahul to leave the country. The allegation is against a civil police officer who allegedly informed Rahul about how to reach Bengaluru without being caught by the police. This officer also provided assistance to Rajesh. The officer's phone may be checked as part of the investigation.
Investigating officers also suspect a financial transaction between the policeman and the accused. When the newlywed and her family filed a complaint, it was alleged that the police took a favourable stand toward the accused. A memo was issued to three policemen involved in the incident and the SHO was suspended.
The police had earlier rejected Usha Kumari's claim that Rahul is a German citizen, stating that he is still using the same Indian passport. Rahul's bank account was also frozen and there are reports of attempts to freeze his foreign accounts.
On May 5th, Rahul, a native of Kottayam, married a woman from Kochi in Guruvayur. He allegedly brutally beat her on May 11th. It is reported that it has not been long since he started living in Kozhikode.
