Murder case accused escape from police custody at Viyyur jail

THRISSUR: Balamurugan (36), a native of Alamkulam in Tamil Nadu, who was brought to Viyyur High Security Jail in a police van, escaped on Friday night. Just after his handcuffs were removed in the jail yard, he managed to evade the Tamil Nadu police who accompanied him.

As per indications, he stole the Pulsar bike, parked with the key in front of house of Viyyur native Sarath, and entered Tamil Nadu. Bike owner Sarath, who lodged a complaint with Viyyur police said that the bike had enough petrol to go more than 100 km.

Balamurugan, accused in 53 cases including 5 murders, was brought back to jail after producing him at Periya court in Tamil Nadu when he managed to escape. A police team including an SI was present at the time.

While escaping, he was wearing baniyan and dhoti. He was arrested from Marayur last September. He has evaded the police before as well.
