PRAYAGRAJ: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav had to cut short their election campaign amid a stampede-like situation in Phulpur in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. The leaders left the stage without addressing the meeting of the INDIA bloc.

The situation went out of control as people thronged around the stage. It is reported that Congress and SP workers were mostly present at the place.

The event was held in Padila, which belongs to the Phulpur Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh. Akhilesh Yadav and Rahul told the activists several times to calm down and move back, but people did not back down. Even the police and security personnel were unable to control the situation. With this, the leaders left the stage after consulting each other to avoid a major mishap. Videos of the incident are circulating on social media.

After leaving Phulpur, Rahul and Akhilesh attended an election campaign meeting organized in Karachhana, which is part of the Allahabad Lok Sabha constituency. It is reported that even there, the crowd of activists often broke the barricades in an attempt to reach the venue. But the police and security personnel were to avoid the situation from escalating.
