Two youths die after slipping and falling into water of quarry

PALAKKAD: Two youths died after slipping and falling into the water of a quarry. The accident happened last night at Pulapetta Chenchuruli in Palakkad. Meghaj (18), son of Manikandan and Abhay (21), son of Raveendran are the two dead. Both are first cousins. The two fell into the water about fifty feet deep.

The accident happened when Meghaj and Abhay were talking and walking by the side of the quarry near their house. The police said that when Meghaj slipped and fell into the quarry, Abhay also fell when trying to save him. On being informed by the eyewitness, the police and the fire rescue team reached the spot, searched and found Meghaj's body. Abhay's body was recovered this morning at around 2:30. Meghaj had completed plus two from Pulapetta MNKM School. Abhay was a second year student of Nehru College.


Meantime, heavy rains in the state have claimed the lives of four. A housewife died yesterday when the wall of her house collapsed at Pothencode in Thiruvananthapuram and a four-year-old boy died after falling into a pond in Idukki. The body of Govindan (63) of Peringath, who went missing the other day while fishing in Pathanamthitta, was found yesterday. A student was electrocuted in Kozhikode the other day. Naresh (25) of Bihar, who went missing in the strong currents in Manimala River, has not been found yet.
