Police arrest two in ganja case following scooter chase in Wayanad

WAYANAD: The police arrested a youth and his accomplice in a cannabis case after they saw the police search and ran away from their scooter. The incident happened in Pulpally, Wayanad. The police were conducting the investigation as part of Operation D Hunt. At this time, the accused Shine Abraham (31) from Areekode Kavumpuram and Ajeesh (44) from Edakkapuram reached in a scooter. They were also in possession of 2.140 kg of cannabis.

Ajeesh got off the scooter and ran away after seeing the police checking but he was caught later. The incident took place on Thursday. As part of the inspection, the police signaled the vehicle to stop and Ajeesh ran away. With this, the police, who became suspicious, checked the vehicle in detail.

Ajeesh was arrested by the police this morning. Ajeesh and Shine had bought cannabis from Bylakuppe in Karnataka to sell in the state. SI H Shah Jahan, Senior CPO K K Ajeesh and CPOs K K Ajeesh and Thomas were in the police team.

As part of Operation D Hunt, which started on May 14, 702 people have been checked in Wayanad district to prevent drug use and sale. Ninety-two people were arrested in 91 cases. Police have so far seized 7.185 grams of MDMA, 2.576 kilograms of ganja, 5.04 grams of opium, and 81 cigarettes filled with ganja in various cases.
