NEW DELHI: The Delhi government has issued strict regulations regarding the water shortage in the national capital. Minister Atishi Marlena said that Rs 2000 would be slapped as a fine on those found guilty of wasting water. The decision to impose fine for water wastage was taken as part of the government's move to resolve the drinking water crisis in Delhi. The Minister also said that Water Supply Board CEO A Anbarasu has been directed to deploy 200 teams of officials to monitor the wastage of water and reduce water consumption.

The minister said that people should not wash cars using hoses and that water supplied for domestic needs should not be used for commercial purposes. She said that a fine of Rs 2000 will be imposed on people wasting water in such ways.

"This month, the Haryana government has not supplied enough water to Delhi. According to the report released on May 1, the water level at the Wazirabad plant was 674.5 ft. However, it has now come down to 669.8 ft. This has led to water scarcity in many areas of Delhi," the minister said.

"Wazirabad is one of the six water treatment plants in Delhi. Some changes will be made in Delhi due to water shortage. I know that where water is being supplied twice a day, people will be troubled if it is cut off for once a day, but I appeal to all Delhiites that we should not think only about ourselves. We should think about everyone," the minister added.
