NEW DELHI: OpenAI, the creators of ChatGPT on Saturday made a shocking revelation about the attempts made by one Israeli firm to interfere in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections in India. The campaign, known as 'Zero Zeno', was carried out by STOIC, a political campaign management firm based in Israel.
OpenAI revealed that the firm used ChatGPT to generate comments, articles and social media profiles criticising the ruling BJP while praising Congress. Such comments became more noticeable in May. The target behind the campaign was to influence people to overthrow the current ruling BJP government.
OpenAI after noticing the similar trend in social media disrupted the attempt within 24 hours. OpenAI also confirmed blocking many social media accounts that tried to influence Lok Sabha elections using AI through X, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and other websites.
The BJP responded to the Open AI report calling it a big threat to democracy. Union IT Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar meanwhile rolled out plans to start an inquiry in this regard.
It is absolutely clear and obvious that @BJP4India was and is the target of influence operations, misinformation and foreign interference, being done by and/or on behalf of some Indian political parties.
