Deadline extended for renewal of Aadhaar Card online; what happens after last date

NEW DELHI: The union government has extended the deadline for free online renewal of Aadhaar card. The date has been extended till June 14. Aadhaar card is used by Indian citizens as proof of identity (Proof of Identity, POI) and proof of address (Proof of Address, POA). As per Aadhaar Enrollment and Update Regulations 2016, POA and POI documents are mandated to be updated every ten years from the date of generating Aadhaar.

It also includes renewal of blue Aadhaar cards for children aged 5 to 15 years. User's personal details like name, address, date of birth, mobile number, email address etc. can be changed through UIDAI website free of charge. The opportunity to update Aadhaar information will be available through My Aadhaar portal.

How to renew Aadhaar card online for free?
1.Visit UIDAI website https://uidai.gov.in/
2. Enter the user's Aadhaar number, captcha etc. Then click on 'Send OTP' associated with the mobile number
3. Next select 'Update Demographics Data' option and update the changes
4. Then click on 'Proceed'. Then upload and submit the required documents.
5. Finally verify the given information once again before clicking on 'Submit'.
6. Finally by entering the 'Update Request Number', it is also possible to check the status of the changes made.

Meantime, biometric information cannot be updated online for free. For this one has to approach the Aadhaar enrollment centers themselves. Those renewing their Aadhaar card after June 14 will be charged. Rs 25 will be charged for online update and Rs 50 for offline update. The deadline for Aadhaar card renewal was extended earlier from December 15, 2023 to March 14, 2024.
