‘We need to stand with victims’ families now; Things like financial aid has to be decided by Centre’

KOCHI: Suresh Gopi, Union Minister of State said the central government should decide on the financial assistance and related matters to the victims of Kuwait fire tragedy. What we need to do now is stand with the families of the victims. He told the media that the government of Kuwait is looking after the affairs of those undergoing treatment in Kuwait and that there is currently a limitation in intervening in the matter of them.


Suresh Gopi stated that the Kuwaiti government should assert the reasons for the accident. He said the Kuwaiti government will find the cause of the accident and inform us.
Suresh Gopi's today’s programmes have been cancelled as part of mourning. He will be in Kochi to receive the bodies at Nedumbassery Airport. Ministers K Rajan, Roshi Augustine, Chinchurani and others have reached the airport. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will arrive soon.


The air force’ flights carrying the bodies will arrive at the airport at 10.30 am. It was initially informed that it would arrive at around 8.30. The flight took off from Kuwait at 6:30 am Indian time.


The bodies will not be kept in the airport for a long time. Relatives of the dead have reached here. Meantime, there are reports that the death toll in the Kuwait tragedy has touched 50. Three of them are from Philippines and the rest are Indians.
