KOCHI: The Ernakulam District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has ordered a matrimonial website to give compensation of Rs 32,100 to a youngster who despite registering on the website failed to find a perfect match. The complaint was lodged by a youngster from Cherthala against Kerala matrimony. The presiding bench chaired by D B Binu ordered the matrimonial website to pay Rs 4,100 as registration fee and Rs 28,000 as compensation to the complainant.

It was in December 2018 that the complainant first registered for free on the website. However, he received a notification from the website saying that they would give details of women interested in marriage only if the user took a premium package which includes an additional charge. In high hopes of finding a perfect match, the complainant paid Rs 4100 to the website.

Despite the payment, no good match came the youngster’s way, which eventually forced him to complain to the commission. Kerala Matrimony meanwhile argued that the complainant took the classic package for three months from January 2019 for Rs 4,100 and the marriage was not guaranteed during the service period.
