Man lays bleeding on road for 20 minutes after being hit by bus, dies

KOLLAM: A 76-year-old man met with a tragic end after he lay bleeding on the road for around 20 minutes after being hit by a bus. The deceased has been identified as Thirumullavaaram native AM Basheer (76), a member of the Muslim League District Working Committee and Kerala Muslim Jamaat Council office-bearer.

The accident happened on the Chinnakkada Beach road at around 12.55 pm yesterday. The back wheel of the bus ran over Basheer's left leg. However, the people who gathered in the area remained mere spectators. Although Basheer was later taken to the hospital, his life could not be saved.

Basheer met with the accident while returning home after attending the drug addiction committee meeting held at Mangad School. He was hit by a private bus after he got on his scooter after buying food from a restaurant on the Beach Road.

The bus driver has been booked for reckless driving and involuntary manslaughter. The body is currently kept at the mortuary of a private hospital. Wife: Late Fazila Beavi. Children: Jasmin and Mohammad Zulfi.
