'Ambili confessed to me...'; Deepu murder 'mastermind' Sunil Kumar surrenders at Kaliakkavilai police station

KUZHITHURAI: Sunil Kumar, believed to be the mastermind in the Deepu murder case, surrendered on Monday. Sunil is the owner of a surgical and the second accused in the murder. Sunil absconding in Chennai reached Kaliakkavilai police station on Sunday night with his lawyer.

On the morning of the incident, Ambili had reached Neyyattinkara. Together with Sunil, Ambili travelled in the car to the spot where the murder took place later. At this location, both of them consumed alcohol inside the car. Ambili then insisted Sunil buy him a new dress from a textile shop in Poovar. After the purchase, Ambili asked Sunil to drop him at his house in Malayam.

When the car reached his house, Ambili changed his plans and continued travelling with Sunil. Ambili then asked Sunil to drop him at Amaravila junction. Both of them again got drunk during the travel. It was at this time that Ambili confessed to planning a murder.

Pradeep Chandran, an employee of Sunil's company, also boarded the vehicle at Neyyattinkara. At 7:30 pm, Ambili got out at Amaravila and asked Sunil to pick him up from Padanthalumoodu at 10 pm. When refused, Ambili threatened to kill Sunil’s son. The conversation got heated up and Sunil was gripped in fear. Both Sunil and Pradeep later headed to Sunil’s wife's house and started to drink alcohol. Sunil meanwhile switched off his phone fearing Ambili.

Ambili did not know Pradeep's phone number. Sunil said that he went into hiding in Chennai after news came about the police investigation. Meanwhile, the police admitted about the discrepancy between Sunilkumar's statement and the nearby CCTV footage.

Tamil Nadu police are also investigating the possibility of Deepu planning his murder to claim the insurance amount. The police are also considering closing the case.
