Yet another encounter killing; goonda leader shot dead by police in Tamil Nadu

CHENNAI: Yet another encounter killing has been reported in Tamil Nadu. Goonda leader Durai (40) was shot dead by the Tamil Nadu police on Thursday. The encounter took place in the forest region near Alangudi in Pudukkottai district. The police reached the spot after receiving information that the goons were hiding in the forest region.

The police said that they shot Durai after he tried to hack an inspector to death. Durai is an accused in 69 cases, including five murder cases. Police have released a picture of the policeman injured during the encounter.

According to reports, Durai was shot in the chest and the leg. Although he was taken to the government hospital in Pudukkottai, his life could not be saved. Durai's body will be handed over to his relatives after post-mortem. The incident took place just a few weeks after the Madras High Court expressed its displeasure over the increasing number of encounter killings in Tamil Nadu.
