THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state capital is all set to take a development leap as the first mother ship will arrive at the Vizhinjam port next week. The cargo ship will arrive at Vizhinjam on July 12. The government has decided to provide a grand reception to the mother ship.
The steps to bring the cargo ship from Mundra Port in Gujarat to Vizhinjam have entered the final stage. The mothership's arrival at the port is the first step towards Vizhinjam port becoming operational on a commercial basis.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Union Ministers, and numerous others will participate in the reception ceremony. Arrangements for this have been completed.
The cargo will be moved from the mothership to smaller container ships and delivered to the port at the start of the cargo movement. After the mother ship arrives, more ships will arrive at Vizhinjam.
The construction of Vizhinjam port, which began in December 2015, is nearing completion after overcoming various hurdles. Adani Port authorities are hoping that the port will be commissioned by December.
