THRISSUR: Union Minister Suresh Gopi and Thrissur Mayor M K Varghese heap praise on each other during a programme conducted by the Corporation. Suresh Gopi heaped praises on the mayor during the inaugural function of Corporation's Urban Health and Wellness Center at Ayyanthole. The mayor, who delivered a speech later also lauded the union minister. Suresh Gopi said that he feels respect and love for the mayor, who used his funds for the people even though his politics is different from his. The actor said the people know who is against the mayor and it is enough for the people to deal with them.
Meantime, Mayor M K Varghese said the people have high hope on Suresh Gopi and that he will bring major projects to Thrissur. Mayor said Suresh Gopi has big projects in his mind. Even when the Lok Sabha elections were announced, the mayor had praised Suresh Gopi. Varghese had then said that Suresh Gopi is fit to become an MP. When his statement sparked a controversy, the mayor corrected it saying that not only Suresh Gopi, all the three candidates were fit.
The CPI had earlier questioned the intimacy between mayor and Suresh Gopi. After resigning from Congress, Varghese became the Mayor of Thrissur with the support of CPM. Meantime, Suresh Gopi while delivering the speech demanded that water shortage in Thekkinkadu Maidanam should be solved through sprinklers and that the Mayor and Cochin Devaswom Board should approve this.
