THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala has reported 11 deaths due to fever in the past 24 hours. Also, four people were diagnosed with rat fever, 173 people were diagnosed with dengue fever and four people were diagnosed with cholera.
Of the 12204 people who who sought treatment for fever, 44 have been diagnosed with H1N1 infection. Cholera has been confirmed today in a private care home in Thiruvananthapuram's Neyyatinkara. It is suspected that the death of a 26-year-old who lived here was caused by cholera.
Meanwhile, a high-level meeting was held under the leadership of Health Minister Veena George to assess the situation. The minister asked those running care homes for children and the elderly in the state to pay special attention. As cholera was confirmed in a private care home at Neyyatinkara in Thiruvananthapuram, the situation there was reviewed. Cholera prevention activities are going on in the area. The minister also stated that water samples from all water sources and various food samples have been sent for testing.
"At present, those infected are being treated in the isolation ward at Iranimuttam. Arrangements are made here to treat more patients. Some people in the care home went to their homes were found and put under observation. A list of children and staff of the school belonging to the institution has been prepared and monitoring has been intensified. The wells in the area have been chlorinated," the minister said.
