Teachers to halt egg and milk distribution over government funding issues

h

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The head teachers are planning to stop the distribution of eggs and milk to the children in protest against the government for not sanctioning the money spent on food items. A lunch committee will be convened urgently for this purpose. The head teachers buy eggs and milk for the students with their own money and borrowed money. The move is also in protest against the government's unwillingness to increase the amount allowed to them despite the sharp increase in prices.

The headmasters also point out that the circular related to mid-day meal has not been released this year. In the circular issued at the beginning of the academic year, the quantity of mid-day meal, egg and milk distribution is clarified.

Earlier, the state provided funds for eggs and milk along with the central fund for mid-day meals. The amount has been allocated separately as per CAG audit instructions. The primary teachers accuse the state of plowing because the amount should be allocated separately. The Finance Department has proposed to discuss with Milma whether milk can be sold at a lower price than the one sold in the public market.

"We are forced to suspend the supply of eggs and milk until a separate amount is allocated according to the market price" said P Krishnaprasad, President and G Sunil Kumar, General Secretary, Kerala Private Primary Headmasters Association.

The plan includes

- 29 lakh children

- Milk delivery per week: two days, egg one day

- Eggs will be laid in June and July

- No amount has been paid for milk either
