KOZHIKODE: In the wake of the major disaster in Wayanad, KSRTC services from Kozhikode have been temporarily suspended. The services were suspended following the directions of the police. There is a traffic jam in the Thamarassery Pass.
Heavy rains are continuing in Wayanad. There have been massive landslides in Mundakkai and Chooralmala. The bodies of 19 people have been found so far in the two landslides that occurred. The death toll is likely to rise. The locals said that many houses in the area are missing. Vellarmala school has been completely destroyed. Wayanad has never seen such a big disaster in Meppadi Mundakkai region.
Two helicopters will soon reach the spot to rescue those trapped in the area. Around 40 families were affected by the landslide. The fire brigade, NDRF teams and locals are carrying out the rescue operation. District collector, district police chief, T Siddique MLA are reaching the spot and coordinating the rescue operation. Mundakkai is near Puthumala where a landslide was witnessed in 2019.
