Rains to get heavy in North Kerala; red alert in four districts, holiday declared for educational institutions in seven districts

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Red alert declared in four districts in the state. Red alert has been announced in Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts. There is a warning that there will be heavy rain at night in these places. It is reported that rain will get heavy in North Kerala. Meanwhile, in the wake of heavy rains, the District Collectors have declared a holiday for educational institutions in seven districts of the state tomorrow. Currently, holidays have been announced in Kasaragod, Kannur, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Malappuram, Palakkad and Thrissur districts. In Kannur, the holiday applies to institutions ranging from anganwadis to professional colleges and tuition centres. However, there will be no change in the previously scheduled general examinations and university examinations.

IMD has informed that there is a possibility of heavy rain at isolated places in Palakkad district and strong winds with a speed of up to 50 km per hour in the next three hours. IMD has informed that there is a possibility of heavy rain till August 2. A low-pressure trough is located from the coast of Kerala to the coast of southern Gujarat. Westerly/north-westerly winds are likely to remain strong for the next two days along with this. As a result, moderate/average rain with widespread thunder and lightning is likely in Kerala for the next five days, the Meteorological Department said.
