Wayanad disaster; Nehru Trophy boat race postponed

ALAPPUZHA: 70th Nehru Trophy boat race scheduled to be held on August 10 has been postponed in the wake of the Wayanad disaster. The Nehru Trophy boat race is being held in Alappuzha Punnamada lake. The organizers are planning to conduct the boat race in September.

Various individuals and organizations have submitted a petition to the District Collector, requesting that the race be postponed. The district collector visited the pavilion and its surroundings yesterday and assessed the preparations. It was suggested that if the boat race is decided to be postponed, it should be done as soon as possible to reduce the momentum of the financial loss of the clubs. The longer the days, the more expensive the daily trail and camp costs.

Every major team has already spent crores on the field. If the race is postponed and the team has to be temporarily disbanded, the financial loss is certain.
