WAYANAD: Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi visited the landslide-hit areas of Meppadi, Chooralmala and Mundakkai. Rahul along with Priyanka Gandhi had visited the disaster area and camps yesterday. Rahul Gandhi held a meeting with the district officials regarding the rescue operation. The discussion was held at the forest office in Chooralmala. Rahul Gandhi also said that the Congress would build over 100 houses for those who survived the disaster.
'I have been here since yesterday. This is such a tragedy. We went to the disaster area yesterday, visited the camps and assessed the situation there. Talked with the authorities today. They detailed about the damage and rehabilitation. We have informed them that we will provide all possible assistance. Congress will build more than 100 houses here. The Congress family is committed to it," Rahul said.
Zubaida and her mother Nabisa had expressed their grief to Rahul who came to the relief camp at St. Joseph's school the other day. They had lost everything they had in the landslide. Nabisa's granddaughter Fida Fatima's marriage also did not happen. Rahul Gandhi assured that he would get Fida married and build a house and requested them not to be sad anymore. Leader of Opposition VD Satheesan confirmed that assurance.
