WAYANAD: The cabinet sub-committee said on Saturday that a drone survey will be conducted in the landslide-hit areas of Mundakkai and Chooralmala. The search will be conducted by comparing with the old pictures of the region. The cabinet sub-committee announced in a press conference that the inspection would be strengthened by analysing the height difference of the sand dunes accumulated in the areas due to landslides.
1264 personnel from 11 units such as NDRF, K-9 Dog Squad, Army K-9 Dog Squad, Special Operation Group, Madras Engineering Group, Police, Fire Force, Forest, Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue, Medical Team, National Disaster Management Authority Delta Squad, Naval and Coast Guard conducted the search in six areas for five days. Four dead bodies were found during the inspection today.
Inspections were carried out at Punchirimattam, Mundakkai, Chooramlala, village premises and School road using 31 earthmoving machines. The committee also said that if people have any complaints regarding the relief camps, they should be brought to the attention of the district collector.
Cleanliness will be ensured in the camps. People visiting the disaster sites unnecessarily will not be encouraged. Such tourism trips will be discouraged. Many people, who lost their family members in the landslides, are also involved in the search. One should understand and respect their emotions. People should not go to the disaster-hit areas to provide food.
The cabinet sub-committee also said that the media should not publish false news related to the tragedy.
