Survived landslide five years ago, ten members of one family dies in Chooralmala disaster

MEPPADI: Ten lives were lost when the family that survived the landslide five years ago fell victim to the Chooralmala disaster. Mahalinkan's mother Nagamma (84), sister Maruthai (48), sister's husband Rajan (54), Maruthai's children Jinu (28), Priyanka (24), Kuruvi (20), Andrea (15), brother Prasobh (40) Prasobh's wife Vijayalakshmi (37) and their son Achuthan (14) died in the landslide. The bodies of four people have been found.

Mahalinkan's sister and children miraculously survived the Mundakkai landslide in 2020. Since then the family has been living in Punchiri Mattam.

Having an experience, they shifted to their relative's estate in Chooralmala, facing the possibility of disaster after heavy rains. But this estate disappeared in the landslide.

Mahalinkan, his wife and children live in Vandoor in Malappuram district. On the day of the tragedy, he talked to his sister at 8 pm. She said that it was raining and she was frightened. He assured that nothing to fear would happen. Mahalinkan said that after getting information about the landslide, he tried reaching out to several people's phones, but in vain.
